My Thanksgiving Week...

I spent the last week being served my every whim! Every meal was brought to me without my asking, there was an open drink bar and room service. I slept more than I've slept since Tayler was born and I could take a lot of drugs that are normally illegal without a doctors permission. My bed went up and down and comformed to my body with every movement I made and Loren was so accommodating with all my wants and needs and even took care of the kids at night while I was gone!

The only problem was I was sicker than a dog to enjoy any of these perks:). I got out of the hospital today after spending 4 days in the ICU and 1 day on the hospital floor. Tuesday night I kept spiking fevers of 104 and had a sore throat. I knew I had strep so I went to Physicians Immediate care the next morning with Loren and the kids. When I finally got to see the doctor, she said that she wasn't going to even test me for strep, but that I needed to get over to see a Ear, Nose and Throat doctor right away. We drove over there, (my fever returned and I was shaking uncontrollably the whole time! This nice old lady offered her husband to put his arm around me:) Anyway I got in there, the Doctor put a camera up my nose and down my throat and after he had looked in my nose and throat looked at me and said, you need to get to the hospital RIGHT now. Do you have a ride that can get you there or should I call an ambulence. I just smiled at him, and told him "funny." He told me I had a condition along with either Strep or Staff called "Epiglottitis" which could swell up my airway within moments and leave me dead in Five minutes... not even enough time for an ambulence to get to me. He told me to walk straight up to the ICU to get checked in.

Anyway, I won't share the fun disgusting details. (Pus, mucous, vomit probably wouldn't make for interesting reading). My throat still looks like raw hamburger but it doesn't hurt near as much. I am on three antibiotics still and am still nauseous and have no appetite. I am SO happy to be back home though with my little baby and Tato...(and Loren of course!). Parker is now formula fed completely. Makes me sad.... but nothing I could do to keep my milk while being so sick. I'm just so grateful we had him on a bottle or two a day for the past 2 months (since HE was in the hospital) so he took easily to all bottle feedings while my Mom and Sister (bless their souls) watched the kids during the day.

I think it was a blessing though... too often I'm not grateful for my health. I AM SO THANKFUL for this modern day where I can LIVE instead of die for these illnesses. So I can be with my family. I'm grateful for sickness so we can realize how feeling well is so wonderful. I'm thanksful for DOCTORS who spend what seems like endless years of their lives studying and researching things to help people. I'll pay what they cost. They deserve it. (Unless I don't have insurance... then I'd file bankruptsy:)

Thanks to all whose prayers have been felt. I'm on the mend thanks to all of you...

WOW!!! I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better. I hope you cotinue to heal. I am so sorry to hear that you had such a terrible time. Hey, I also wanted to say that I should be in Arimo within the week. I was originally going to be there for a little over a month but now it looks like it will only be for a couple weeks. Anyway, we need to get together.

Carrie,I'm soooo sorry to hear how sick you've been.  Wow, your poor little family has sure had it rough this year.  I've never even heard of epiglottis.  Never knew strep could get that bad.  I'm so happy you are better now though, and I agree...thank goodness for modern medicine!

Hey Carrie,

Landon and I've been thinking about you (and your growing hospital bill :) and are really happy to hear that you are feeling better. It's true that getting sick gives you a new appreciation for how nice it is when you are healthy, so i guess that is the silver lining. Enjoy feeling better :).

Love you,

L&L

Part of our Thanksgiving is our gratitude that you are home! Such a potentially dangerous condition was a scare for all. I know your sweeties were glad to see their mom...

We love you!
